簡單理解第二類條件句：自信地說英語

英語文法中第二類條件句的變化 

您也可以使用第二類條件句來表達對未來結果的不確定性。請看以下兩個句子： 

First Conditional: If I get that job, I'll move to Toronto.  

Second Conditional: If I got that job, I'd move to Toronto. 

這兩個句子表達了相似的含義。但在第一個句子中，說話者對得到這份工作更有信心。在第二個句子中，他們不確定.…也許他們甚至沒有申請？可能他們在幻想著有一天能找到一份讓他們能環遊世界的工作？ 

因為英語的第二類條件句談論的是不真實的情況，所以我們經常使用動詞 to be，該動詞的形式為 were  而不是 was,，即使當我們用第一人稱和第三人稱談論時： 

例如， 

If I were less worried about the future, I'd enjoy life more. 

If he were more careful, he wouldn't make so many mistakes. 

也可以在主句中使用 could or might，而不是 would or wouldn't.但是這些詞語表達的是較不確定的情況。所以當您需要談論某個可能發生的事情，但不一定會發生時，您使用 could or might。 

例如， 

If I knew all the answers, I could easily pass the exam. 

If he listened more, he might learn something new.  

就像所有條件句一樣，「if」子句和「main」子句的順序可以互換。但是當「if」子句在前時，我們使用逗號分隔這兩個子句。   

例如， 
If John were here, I'd tell him exactly what I think of him. 

I'd tell John exactly what I think of him if he were here.   

使用第二類條件句的常見錯誤 

常見的錯誤是搞混兩個子句，從而使用錯誤的英語時態。  

例如， 

I didn’t eat that if I were you.X  

I wouldn’t eat that if I were you.✓  

和我們講英語時一樣，寫條件句時我們也經常會使用縮寫。 
 
例如： 

If John had grown up here, he’d speak perfect Thai. (He would. Contraction = he’d 

If I’d taken that job in the bank, I’d be richer now. (I would. Contraction = I’d) 
 
我的成年學生經常問要如何知道‘d 是指「had」還是「would」？這是個好問題。答案是 -- 參考上下文！不可能這麼說：‘He had speak perfect Thai', 因為在助詞 had 之後，我們必須使用過去分詞，所以它只能是「would」。 

請記住，我們從不在 could or might 等動詞後使用「to」 

例如， 
If I cooked, you wouldn’t to enjoy it.X
